Two new researchers join iHEALTH

The Millennium Institute iHEALTH welcomes Jocelyn Dunstan and Yoleidy Huérfano, who join as associate researcher and postdoctoral researcher, respectively, strengthening the institute’s research lines in artificial intelligence applied to health and medical imaging.

Dr. Jocelyn Dunstan, who joins as an associate researcher, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and the Institute of Mathematical and Computational Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Chile and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge. In addition, she is a junior researcher at the Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD).

Her work has focused on the use of natural language processing and data science in medicine to support clinical decision-making, with an emphasis on privacy preservation and the incorporation of gender perspective in the development of digital tools for public health.

Dr. Yoleidy Huérfano, meanwhile, joins iHEALTH as a postdoctoral researcher in Stream 3, “Explainable AI for medical imaging and non-imaging patient data integrated analysis, reporting and diagnosis,” which focuses on explainable artificial intelligence for the integrated analysis of medical data. She holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the Universidad Nacional Experimental del Táchira and a PhD in Applied Mathematical Modeling from the Universidad Católica del Maule.

Her research line has addressed machine learning, segmentation, and medical image processing, with recent publications in high-impact journals such as IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems and Neurocomputing.

With their incorporation, iHEALTH strengthens its commitment to scientific excellence, research diversity, and the development of AI-based solutions that respond to health challenges in Chile and Latin America
