On Saturday, April 12, the first edition of the Diploma in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Medical Diagnosis officially began, coordinated by the Professional Education Directorate of the School of Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. This innovative interdisciplinary training program, promoted by the Millennium Institute for Intelligent Healthcare Engineering (iHEALTH), is being developed in collaboration with the Institute of Biological and Medical Engineering UC, the School of Engineering UC, and the School of Medicine UC.

This diploma program aims to provide health professionals — such as doctors, nurses, medical technologists, and biomedical engineers — with concrete tools to understand, analyze, and implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in clinical settings. Over the course of its five modules, participants will explore computational foundations, medical data analysis, machine learning, and deep learning, combining theory with hands-on applications based on real-world data.

The program began with an in-person seminar where students were able to meet each other, share experiences, and explore the first ethical and technical challenges involved in integrating AI into medical diagnostics. Key topics such as health innovation and technology transfer were also addressed, anticipating the debates that will unfold throughout the diploma course.

The teaching staff includes researchers from iHEALTH, such as Dr. Claudia Prieto Vásquez, director of the institute and head of the program; Dr. Marcelo Andia Kohnenkampf, radiologist and expert in medical imaging; Dr. Rodrigo Cádiz, engineer and composer specializing in biomedical signal processing; Dr. Denis Parra, specialist in artificial intelligence, language models, and recommendation systems; Dr. María Rodríguez Fernández, expert in quantitative physiology and physiological sensors; Dr. Francisco Sahli Costabal, known for his work in mathematical modeling of biological systems; and Dr. Julio Sotelo, who specializes in medical image processing.

Offered in a remote and synchronous format, this diploma program aims to train leaders in the implementation of AI solutions within the healthcare system. The first cohort has already begun their journey — a diverse and motivated community that will play a leading role in the digital transformation of medical diagnostics.

Enrollment is now open for the next edition. Check all the details at the following link:  https://educacionprofesional.ing.uc.cl/?diplomado=diplomado-en-inteligencia-artificial-aplicada-al-diagnostico-medico
