Students from iHEALTH participated in the Annual Meeting of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping

Astrid Cancino and Pamela González, doctoral students from the University of Valparaíso and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile respectively, presented the results of their research at the conference held in South Korea.

From June 23 to 27, the annual meeting of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping (OHBM), an international society dedicated to advancing the understanding of the functional and anatomical organization of the human brain through neuroimaging, as well as providing spaces for the exchange of innovative research on methods and applications in the field, was held in Seoul, South Korea.

During the poster sessions on June 26 and 27, Astrid Cancino, a student of the Doctorate in Health Sciences and Engineering at the University of Valparaíso, presented the results of her thesis work titled “Intravoxel incoherent motion and cerebrovascular reactivity in acute stroke and clinical follow-up.” The work addressed the relationship between intravoxel incoherent motion and cerebrovascular reactivity in acute stroke, highlighting the importance of these measures to understand the pathophysiology of stroke and its clinical follow-up.

On the other hand, on June 24 and 25, Pamela González, a student of the Doctorate in Medical Sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, presented her poster “In Vivo Neurological Signatures of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy: An MRI study of QSM and MRS,” in which she explored the in vivo neurological signatures of chronic traumatic encephalopathy using magnetic resonance imaging techniques, highlighting relevant findings for the understanding and early detection of this neurodegenerative condition.

The students had the opportunity to share with expert researchers in the field of neuroimaging from around the globe. Additionally, they were able to showcase the level of research being carried out not only at the Millennium Institute iHEALTH but also from laboratories belonging to Chilean universities.
