Second Edition of the Diploma in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Medical Diagnosis Kicks Off
Last Friday, August 29, 2025, the second edition of the Diploma in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Medical Diagnosis officially began with an opening seminar held at the San Joaquín Campus of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. The program, coordinated by Professional Education UC, is an initiative of the Millennium Institute iHEALTH, developed in collaboration with the Institute for Biological and Medical Engineering UC, the School of Engineering UC, and the School of Medicine UC.
This diploma aims to provide health professionals —including physicians, nurses, medical technologists, and biomedical engineers— with concrete tools to understand, analyze, and implement artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in clinical contexts. Across its five courses, participants explore computational foundations, medical data analysis, machine learning, and deep learning, combining theoretical concepts with practical applications based on real-world data.
The opening session featured a welcome and three introductory lectures that outlined the opportunities and challenges of AI in medicine. The seminar included presentations by:
- Dr. Marcelo Andía on The Potential of AI in Medicine
- Dr. Claudia Prieto, director of iHEALTH, on AI in Health: Medical Imaging
- Dr. Denis Parra on AI in Health: Natural Language Processing
The program emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach and is designed in live online modality with face-to-face seminars, ensuring accessibility for participants across different regions while fostering collaborative learning.
With 26 enrolled students, this new cohort brings together a diverse group of professionals eager to become leaders in the digital transformation of healthcare, particularly in the integration of AI into medical diagnosis.
