Outstanding participation of iHEALTH members at the ISMRM/ISMRT 2025 Annual Meeting in Hawaii

From May 10 to 15, the 2025 ISMRM & ISMRT Annual Meeting & Exhibition took place in Honolulu, Hawaii — the most important annual conference in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) worldwide. This year, the Millennium Institute iHEALTH had an especially prominent presence thanks to the presentation of research led by its members, significant awards received, and a key role in the organization of the event.
Dr. Cristián Tejos, Full Professor at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC) and Associate Researcher at iHEALTH, was part of the Annual Meeting Program Committee, the team responsible for shaping the scientific program of the conference. His participation reflects the institute's standing in the international MRI community and its contribution to the advancement of the field.
Cristian Montalba, a master's student in Health Sciences Research at UC, won the 1st Place Research Focus Poster Award for his work “Scan With Me (SWIM): Enhancing Dementia Imaging Through Training Of MRI Personnel in Low-and Middle-Income Countries”, presented during the Power Pitch session on May 9. Similarly, Diego Pedraza, a PhD student in Biological and Medical Engineering at UC, received the Summa Cum Laude Merit Award for his research “Free-running Cardiac MRF for Simultaneous T1, T2 Mapping and Cine Imaging at 0.55T”, supervised by Dr. Claudia Prieto, Director of iHEALTH.
iHEALTH’s participation began on May 11 with the presentation by Cristian Montalba, who also delivered the work “Integrating BMAT and FA Imaging for Improved Classification of Multiple Sclerosis: A Machine Learning Perspective”. On May 12, Dr. Carlos Valle, Postdoctoral Researcher at iHEALTH, presented “Free-breathing 3D cine lung imaging on low field MRI”, and Javier Bisbal, UC PhD student, presented “Automatic Labelling of Intracranial arteries: A Comparison of UNet-based Networks”.
Monday, May 13, was a busy day for the team, with presentations from UC PhD students Nicolás Garrido (“Highly-efficient simultaneous 3D radial joint T1-T2-FF mapping for isotropic resolution liver imaging at 0.55T”), Matías Paredes (“Motion-Corrected Deep-Learning Reconstruction Framework for 3D Whole-Heart MRA at 0.55T”), and Tabita Catalán (“Self-supervised motion-corrected reconstruction for single heartbeat cardiac cine MRI at 1.5T and 0.55T using PINNs and Deep Image Prior”); along with iHEALTH engineers Felipe Ercoli (“High-resolution highly-accelerated free breathing 3D joint T1/T2 and fat fraction mapping of the liver at 0.55T”) and Pablo Pino (“Free-breathing respiratory-resolved 3D Lung Vasculature MRI at 0.55T with non-rigid motion-corrected reconstruction”).
On May 14, the program continued with the aforementioned presentation by Diego Pedraza, and a second participation by Cristian Montalba with the work “Integrating BMAT and FA Imaging for Improved Classification of Multiple Sclerosis: A Machine Learning Perspective”. That same day, Sebastián Jara, PhD student at UTFSM, presented his work “Prediction of peak-to-peak pressure gradient in patients with aortic coarctation using PINNs from Magnetic Resonance Images”, and Dr. Julio Sotelo, professor at the same university and Associate Researcher at iHEALTH, presented “Effect of blood rheology and hematocrit on the estimation of hemodynamic parameters in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy”. In addition, Dr. Pablo Irarrázaval, Full Professor at UC and Senior Researcher at iHEALTH, gave a talk titled “MR Simulation Tools”, where he highlighted the value of simulation in MRI for research and education, featuring tools like KomaMRI developed in Julia.
Finally, on May 15, iHEALTH concluded its conference participation with the second presentation by Dr. Carlos Valle, “0.55T Low-field MRI spirometry”; Dr. Ronal Coronado, Early Career Researcher at iHEALTH, with “Accelerated DESPOT1 with variable parameters for 3D T1 brain mapping”; and Rafael De la Sotta, iHEALTH engineer, who presented “Multi-Slice Single-Breath-Hold Cardiac CINE with Slice and Time-Dependent Deep Image Prior at 1.5T and 0.55T”.
In addition to these notable presentations, Dr. Cristián Tejos’s role as a member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee further underlines iHEALTH’s leadership in the field and its active engagement in international scientific communities.
The participation of the Millennium Institute iHEALTH at the ISMRM/ISMRT 2025 Annual Meeting reaffirms its commitment to cutting-edge research in magnetic resonance imaging and health technologies, as well as its strong presence in leading global scientific forums.
