Outstanding Participation of iHEALTH at the SCMR Annual Conference

Between Wednesday, January 29, and Saturday, February 1, the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) held its 28th Annual Conference in Washington D.C., USA. In this context, a delegation of researchers and students from iHEALTH participated in the event to present the latest advances in their research and engage with attendees, who are part of the association’s global network.
Dr. Claudia Prieto, UC professor and iHEALTH director, had a prominent role in the event as part of its organizing committee, overseeing the conference program. As such, during the Opening Plenary Session on Thursday 30, she gave introductory remarks to present the activities that would take place throughout the week. Additionally, several presentations were delivered by doctoral students from UC, including Diego Pedraza, who presented Free-running Cardiac MRF for Simultaneous T1, T2 Mapping and Cine Imaging at 0.55 T, and Nicolás Garrido, who presented Highly efficient free-running cardiac joint T1/T2 mapping at 0.55 T. Similarly, Carlos Castillo, a former member of iHEALTH, presented KomaMRI.j: Device-Agnostic, Highly Efficient, Pulseq-Compatible MRI Simulations.
On Friday, the institute’s participation continued with the presentation of iHEALTH engineer Pablo Pino, who presented Free-Breathing Respiratory-Resolved 3D Lung MRI for Three Sequences at Low-field.
Finally, on Saturday, iHEALTH members Tabita Catalán and Matías Paredes, both UC doctoral students, presented Self-supervised motion-corrected reconstruction for single heartbeat cardiac cine MRI using Neural Fields and Deep Image Prior and Motion-Corrected Deep-Learning Reconstruction Framework for 3D Whole-Heart MRA at 0.55T, respectively.
During the closing session, the Awards Ceremony took place, where Dr. René Botnar, UC professor and iHEALTH principal investigator, was honored with the Gold Medal Award, the highest distinction granted by the SCMR, recognizing his distinguished and extraordinary service to the field of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. Dr. Botnar was awarded for being a pioneer in the development of non-invasive, free-breathing coronary MRI angiography, as well as for his contributions to new MRI pulse sequences, motion correction techniques, and artificial intelligence applied to the early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases, molecular MRI of atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction using novel targeted contrast agents, among other innovations in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.
The participation of iHEALTH in the SCMR Conference reaffirms the institute’s commitment to cutting-edge research in cardiovascular magnetic resonance, the development of new technologies, and the strengthening of international collaboration in the field of healthcare.
