Members of iHEALTH conclude their participation in the Scientific Communication Workshop
With a total of five sessions, last Tuesday, December 26, the Scientific Communication Workshop was finished, given by the prominent scientific communicator Macarena Rojas, a member of the Productora El Viento.
As part of the actions carried out by iHEALTH to provide interdisciplinary tools to its members, throughout 2023 a Scientific Communication Workshop was held to develop skills in this area, in order to link the general community with the values and knowledge of the research carried out by the institute.
The sessions were directed by Macarena Rojas Abalos, a biologist and master in journalism with extensive experience leading different outreach initiatives. In addition, she is a professor of the semester course Communicating Science at the UC Faculty of Communications and the Vice-Rector's Office for Research and Doctorates at the San Sebastián University.
About the work carried out in the course, Macarena comments: "in the workshop we were able to address different strategies to communicate the various themes and lines of research that the institute addresses and to put them into practice through a scicomm project". Regarding the results obtained, she adds: “three products came out that would be a great contribution to the outreaching of iHEALTH knowledge to the community”.
The workshop was evaluated positively, highlighting the opportunity to integrate the various topics being investigated in a scicomm project, in addition to taking advantage of the opportunity to socialize with other work groups. Marie González, research engineer, comments that “what I took away most from the workshop was that we were able to develop different projects according to our own interests, working with people from different areas with whom we do not talk on a daily basis”.
On the other hand, Javier Tramon, also a research engineer, highlights that ”it was a good activity to understand the entire process in creating science scicomm projects. It is good to be aware, as researchers, of the entire process involved in acquiring resources to carry out these projects”.
