Members of iHEALTH are awarded Fondecyt 2024 projects
Ronal Coronado, postdoctoral student, and Cristóbal Arrieta, iHEALTH collaborator, obtained funding to develop their research projects in the area of magnetic resonance imaging.
On Wednesday, December 27, the results of the research funding contests awarded by the National Research and Development Agency (ANID) were announced, in which two members of the iHEALTH community stand out.
Ronal Coronado, a postdoctoral researcher at the institute, was one of the beneficiaries of the 2024 Postdoctoral Fondecyt. The funds from the competition will allow him to finance the project “Low-Field Multiparametric and Quantitative Magnetic Resonance of the Prostate”, which aims to improve diagnosis of prostate cancer using rapid sequences of quantitative multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging obtained from a 0.55T low-field resonator. Obtaining this objective will also involve the use of Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques for the reconstruction of the images subsampled by the resonator.
On the other hand, the academic from the Alberto Hurtado University and iHEALTH collaborator, Cristóbal Arrieta, who obtained the 2024 Research Initiation Fondecyt, is researching the use of magnetic resonance imaging and artificial intelligence to contribute to the detection and monitoring of fatty liver disease. To do this, it proposes the use of a neural network trained with data from hundreds of livers to specify the quantification of fat more efficiently, and thus, only needing half of the information used by other conventional methods.
