"Invierno con Ciencia" holds successful 3rd edition at Santiago Library
Over its two days, the science outreach fair welcomed 1,562 students from educational establishments in the Metropolitan Region.
With broad participation from school communities, the third edition of Invierno con Ciencia concluded on Friday, August 7. Over two days, this science outreach fair brought together research centers, universities, and institutions dedicated to bringing scientific knowledge closer to the public at the Santiago Library.
The event drew 942 students from educational establishments on Thursday, August 6, and another 620 on Friday, August 7, for a total of 1,562 schoolchildren across both days. The first day was geared especially toward high school students, while the second featured programming aimed mainly at grades 4 through 8.
Over the two days, attendees were able to explore stands and take part in interactive experiences tied to astronomy, artificial intelligence, biodiversity, transportation and logistics, agronomy, optics, volcanoes, oceans, mathematics, health, climate change, microbiology, engineering, and ecology, among other fields.
The third edition featured the participation of 27 scientific institutions, whose research and outreach teams developed activities to bring their areas of work closer to the public through experiments, games, audiovisual material, and other hands-on experiences. More than half of the institutions are research centers funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), among them iHEALTH.
Marcela Valdés Rodríguez, director of the Santiago Library, highlighted the changes in format, such as holding the event over two days. "There are many favorable elements that allowed us to give greater visibility to the event, to science, and therefore to draw a larger audience. So I think we're ready for a new edition."
She also emphasized that "partnership is always an excellent way of working, and I wish we always did it this way, because when there are alliances between public actors, and between these and private ones, the community ultimately wins."
With the close of its two days, Invierno con Ciencia thus completed a new edition devoted to creating spaces for direct encounters between science and the public, bringing together in one place different disciplines, research institutions, and school communities from the Metropolitan Region.
