iHEALTH welcomes four new Associate and Young Researchers

With great enthusiasm, iHEALTH announces the incorporation of new members: three Associate Researchers and one Young Investigator, who will contribute their knowledge and experience to the development of research in engineering and artificial intelligence applied to health.
The new Associate Researchers joining the institute are:
- Dr. Cecilia Okuma, Medical Doctor (University of Chile), with a Master’s and PhD in Biomedical Sciences (University of Chile). She currently works as a neuroradiologist at the Dr. Alfonso Asenjo Institute of Neurosurgery. Her research focuses on the processing and segmentation of cerebrovascular medical images (MRI / CT).
- Dr. Cristián Navarrete, Medical Doctor (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile), with a specialization in Dermatology (PUC) and in Oncology and Cancer Biology (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center). He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research focuses on the use of non-invasive methods for skin cancer detection, such as dermatoscopy.
- Dr. Jaime Retamal, Medical Doctor (Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción), PhD in Medical Sciences (PUC), and Specialist in Internal Medicine (University of Chile) and Intensive Care Medicine (PUC). He is currently an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research areas include respiratory physiology, ventilator-induced lung injury, and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
In addition, we warmly welcome the following Young Investigator:
- Dr. Xaviera López, Bioinformatics Engineer (University of Talca) and PhD in Sciences with a focus on Research and Development of Bioactive Products (University of Talca). She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing and Industries at the Universidad Católica del Maule. Her research focuses on data science, machine learning, and AI-based tools for predicting bacterial antibiotic resistance.
The incorporation of these outstanding researchers will strengthen iHEALTH’s research lines and promote new collaborations within the institute’s community. We extend a warm welcome and wish them great success in this new chapter!
