iHEALTH Leads AI Discussions at the Chilean Congress of Radiology 2025

On October 9 and 10, the Millennium Institute iHEALTH had a prominent participation in the Chilean Congress of Radiology 2025, reinforcing its role as a national leader in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced medical imaging across various clinical specialties.

The sessions on Thursday, October 9, were marked by the Artificial Intelligence Module, moderated by two iHEALTH members: Dr. Cecilia Besa, Professor at the UC Department of Radiology and Principal Investigator at iHEALTH, and Dr. Benjamín Pizarro, PhD student at the University of Chile, who led the sessions alongside Dr. Héctor Henríquez from the University of Los Andes.

Within this module, iHEALTH led the “Artificial Intelligence Workshop II: LLM Applications in Radiology”, where participants compared two language models for generating medical imaging reports. The activity was conducted by Dr. Denis Parra, Professor at the UC Department of Computer Science and Principal Investigator at iHEALTH; Dr. Carlos Valle, Postdoctoral Researcher at iHEALTH; and Pablo Poblete, PhD student at UC.

In the same module, Dr. Rodrigo Salas, Professor at the School of Biomedical Civil Engineering, University of Valparaíso, and Principal Investigator at iHEALTH, delivered the talk “Radiological AI under Bias: The Underrepresentation of Latin America in Clinical Data”, addressing a critical challenge for the development of fair and inclusive AI tools in the region. In addition, Dr. Carlos Valle presented his research as part of the scientific paper sessions.

Advances in Cardiac and Breast Imaging

On Friday, October 10, iHEALTH continued its active participation in the Cardiovascular Module, where Dr. René Botnar, Professor at the UC Institute of Biological and Medical Engineering and Principal Investigator, presented “Cardiac MRI for Coronary Imaging: Lumen and Plaque”. Dr. Claudia Prieto, Professor at the UC School of Engineering and Director of iHEALTH, presented “Multiparametric 3D Cardiac MRI: All-in-one”.

Dr. Julio Sotelo, Professor at the Department of Informatics, UTFSM, and Adjunct Researcher at iHEALTH, had a remarkable presence with two presentations: “Cardiac MRI Flow: From Conventional 2D Evaluation to Advanced 4D Analysis” at the Hands-on Cardiac MRI Module, and “4D Flow: What’s New and What’s Coming Next” at the Cardiovascular Module.

In the Breast Imaging Module, Dr. Steren Chabert, Professor at the School of Biomedical Civil Engineering, University of Valparaíso, and Principal Investigator at iHEALTH, presented “MamaAI-dens: Chilean Artificial Intelligence for the Automatic Categorization of Breast Density”, showcasing local developments aimed at improving breast cancer diagnosis.
